Russian Buyers in 2020 through Eyes of International Realtors
January 05, 2021

Hi Everyone,

Russian Buyers in 2020 through Eyes of International Realtors

Russian real estate portal Prian just published end-of-the-year-2020 interviews with international realtors working with Russian buyers in various countries. Here are some of them in a nutshell translated into English for you.

Slovenia: online purchases are not popular in this country, companies still prefer to work in brick-and-mortar, so commercial properties (offices) are in demand.

Germany: price tags on residential properties are going up while rental income is going down.

Bulgaria: with the covid restrictions more than half of the sold properties have been sold to the locals.

Montenegro: a new program citizenship-for-real-estate-investment doesn't really increase real estate sales so far, as only three government-run companies are approved to take such applications.

UOE: more buyers come from Europe, also Israelis started to visit who are allowed to purchase local properties since January 2021 (about one third of the Israelis are immigrants from the countries of the former Soviet Union and speak Russian as such).

Thailand: hotels under management of famous brends with programs of the quaranteed income are in demand.

Turkey: for years the country stays on the top among destinations for Russian buyers of real estate, but under covid restrictions more locals buyers become active on the market.

Cyprus: although the citizenship-for-real-estate-investment program had been stopped (maybe not for ever, the government works on it), but such buyers are only about one tenth of all Russian buyers, so the rest nine tenth of them are still here.

Italy: the South of the country becomes more popular as it's cheaper, another trend is towards more active local buyers, as in many other countries under covid.

Portugal: to be a participant of the- golden-visa program for foreigners, one might buy a property not necessary in a big city, but in areas with a low population density where it's cheaper.

Spain: rental income decreases for the first time in many years, long-term rentals preferred.

Greece: discounts are available on the real estate market, but the sellers want to see a real offer to talk about a discount.
