Selling to Russians News: What Russian Investors Want in 2017
November 01, 2017

Hi Everyone,

What Russian Investors Want in 2017

I've searched for competent opinions on what properties Russian investors are purchasing internationally and here we are - from many various sources.

Buzz Feed: The New York's Mayor De Blasio says in an interview "I see Russian oligarchs as a problem. It manifests here as a lot of people with ill-gotten gains buying a lot of property, and I don't like it one bit. I wish I had a specific law or approach to defend it."

Colliers International: The Russian investors have switched from buying expensive residential properties to commercial properties and cheaper residential. 50% of all our transactions with the Russians in 2017 have been for commercial properties, mostly retail.

Knight Frank: The demand for international commercial properties from the Russian investors has doubled in 2017 in comparison with the last year. Hotels, restaurants, students' apartments, fitness centers, car services and gas stations are being purchased by the Russians abroad from Russia.

Gordon Real Estate and Oracle Capital Group: The number of Russian investors into foreign for them commercial properties increased 25% and 10% accordingly.

Savills: More and more Russian investors carefully calculate their return on investment which was not the case in the past. On the other hand, many of them think more about saving their money by investing in real estate abroad than about extracting any substantial income from their investments.

Thus, we can resume that the latest trend among the Russian investors, that actually started a couple of years ago, is not buying luxury for their own use internationally, but more practical homes and condos (often to rent out) and businesses.

Of course, every Russian buyer has his own preferences and ideas about investing in real estate in various countries of the world, although the major goals for the Russian investors as a group are the following: to save their money and get some rental income as well. You may wish to answer their quest while preparing your marketing message for the potential Russian buyers of your properties.

To your best business success,

Sincerely,
